View Online Featured Alder Guitar Body Blank
Alder is one of the most popular tonewoods for solid body guitars. Its light weight and warm, well-balanced tone have made alder famous ever since the first solid body guitars of the 1950’s. It has a warm honey color and a subdued grain pattern, lending itself to translucent and solid finishes alike. Its fine grain makes pore filling unnecessary, and its workability is excellent, making alder a great choice for both professional luthiers and beginners.

View Featured Online Espave Guitar Body Blanks
Our Espave is harvested from the bottom of Gatun lake, a man made fresh water lake created by the building of the Panama Canal. Also known as White Mahogany, espave is easily worked with hand and power tools. Although some guitar makers have found it to be resonant and great for solidbody guitars, it has yet to find its way into the mainstream market. It is closer to alder than to mahogany in workability, but softer than either, so make sure your bits and edge tools are sharp to avoid tearout. Espave offers some rich variations in appearance, and a smell that is truly memorable.

View Featured Online Sitka Spruce Body Blanks
Sitka spruce, being softwood, is a step off the beaten path when it comes to solid body electric instruments. Sitka’s natural resonance and light weight have been well recognized in acoustic instruments for many years. However, its clear, vibrant tone is sure to make its way into common use among electrics as well. Sitka is very easy to work with and finish, and while it is easy to dent, it is not much more susceptible to marring than basswood.

Ash is another classic solid body electric guitar tonewood that dates back to the 1950’s. While not as warm as alder, Ash has a tonal color that tends to be bright without being harsh. Its smooth sound and great “pop” makes it a perennial favorite with Telecaster enthusiasts. Ash varies greatly in density and weight. Its workability is excellent, being easy on edge tools and sanding, although the pores need to be filled if a slick, glossy finish is required.
